American venture capital giant leads investment
Swedish healthcare company Neko Health is getting a $290 million investment, to expand their business. Skype founder Niklas Zennström's Atomico is participating in the investment, as well as Spotify co-founder Martin Lorentzon's investment company.
Expansion into world's largest healthcare market
The US is next in line for Neko Health. The country is the company's third largest market in terms of waiting list and spends $4.5 trillion annually on health and medical care. 90 percent of these costs go to chronic diseases.
"We are fundamentally a tech company that wants to build the diagnostics of the future," says Hjalmar Nilsonne, CEO and co-founder of Neko Health, to Di.
Technology enables preventive care
Neko Health combines physical examinations with AI analysis. During a 45-minute visit, millions of data points are collected and analyzed using artificial intelligence. The examination covers skin, circulatory organs, heart and blood vessels, together with traditional blood markers.
Strong growth and continued development
Half of the new investment will be used for research and development. Neko Health is already participating in six clinical studies in areas such as arterial stiffness and skin conditions.
The company has established three clinics in Sweden and the UK. 80 percent of visitors book and prepay for an annual return visit.
From sick care to healthcare
Warp News has previously reported on how Neko Health is changing the way diseases are detected. In an interview with co-founder Hjalmar Nilsonne, it was described how the company uses AI to analyze millions of birthmarks against a comprehensive database, enabling early detection of skin changes. The system documents all birthmarks and can detect even small changes during return visits.
