I had finished writing today's text, but after reading Marc Andreessen's The Techno-Optimist Manifesto, I'm holding off on it until next week and urge you to read the manifesto instead.
We are being lied to.
We are told that technology takes our jobs, reduces our wages, increases inequality, threatens our health, ruins the environment, degrades our society, corrupts our children, impairs our humanity, threatens our future, and is ever on the verge of ruining everything.
We are told to be angry, bitter, and resentful about technology.
We are told to be pessimistic.
We are becoming a serious counterforce. By "we", I mean us. You who are reading this, but also many people around the world. A counterforce against slowing down, stopping, pausing progress and instead accelerating it. A progress movement. This manifesto is part of that.
There are things I feel are missing and others I disagree with, but overall it's spot on. Above all, I like that he doesn't apologize. He doesn't sugarcoat. But clearly manifests, which is what one should do in a manifesto.
We believe in the words of David Deutsch: βWe have a duty to be optimistic. Because the future is open, not predetermined and therefore cannot just be accepted: we are all responsible for what it holds. Thus it is our duty to fight for a better world.β
We owe the past, and the future.
Itβs time to be a Techno-Optimist.
Itβs time to build.

Andreessen's manifesto goes well with Kevin Kelly's The Case for Optimism and David Deutsch's Optimism, Pessimism, and Cynicism.
