๐ Major progress for Project Energy Society: Signs deal covering 20% of Sweden's homes
The concept of local electricity production, storage, and sharing of energy will be offered to Sweden's public housing companies. Project Energy Society, which includes the Warp Institute, aims to create an abundance of cheap and clean energy at a low fixed price

- Public Housing Sweden and ViaEuropa have signed an agreement to develop a concept for local electricity production, storage, and sharing of energy.
- The concept will be offered to Sweden's public housing companies, enabling a very rapid expansion.
- Project Energy Society, which includes Warp Institute (parent of Warp News), aims to create an abundance of cheap and clean energy at a low fixed price.
A big step towards the energy society
"In 1998, HSB, Swedenโs biggest federation of cooperative housing, believed in us, which gave us the opportunity to build up Bredbandsbolaget and thus help to give Sweden and the world new digital infrastructure. It seems to be time again?" writes Jonas Birgersson on Facebook.
Public Housing Sweden (Allmรคnnyttan) represents 320 public municipal and private housing companies, with a total of about one million homes. Now, they have signed an agreement with Jonas Birgersson's company, ViaEuropa, to develop a concept for energy communities.
This means many small electric grids consisting of local electricity production, storage, and sharing of the energy within the grid and especially between grids.
The Energy Society is the idea of building and connecting thousands of energy communities. This creates a new power grid that operates parallel to the old grid. In the new network, an abundance of clean energy is created, allowing households to get all the electricity they need at a low fixed price.
"Renewable energy is abundant, but existing power grids are not built to handle large-scale local production. By adding new technology via energy communities, we can create a new energy society where an abundance of green electricity at low fixed prices is a given. Did you know that just the potential on Sweden's roofs is 50 TWh per year," says Jonas Birgersson.
"We see great potential in energy communities for our members. Energy communities are good for the wallet and the environment and can provide benefits and put pressure on the existing network owners," says Anders Nordstrand, CEO of Sweden's Public Utility.
Project Energy Society
The non-profit foundation Warp Institute, which is the parent of Warp News, is part of Project Energy Society. Together, we have developed the Energy Society Manifesto, consisting of ten points. Among them:
- An abundance of clean energy will enable humanity to reach the next level of civilization.
- The internetification of energy distribution will enable true independence from old hierarchical power structures.
- A system with many thousands of cooperating energy communities will deliver a more robust energy system.
In Lund, Birgersson's ViaEuropa is working with two prototypes and is also creating an energy protocol, which will become an open standard for energy sharing.
"What we do in Lund has now created a structure we can share with real estate companies that own every fifth residence in Sweden," says Jonas Birgersson.
