The energy society is a community where we have an abundance of fossil-free energy available at a low, fixed price. This is the goal of Project Energy Society, which Warp News' parent foundation, Warp Institute, has been a part of for a couple of years. The key is the storage and sharing of energy.

Piece by piece is added to the project. Two demonstrators are being built, a manifesto has been presented, agreements have been signed with Sweden's Public Utility (which serves 20 percent of Swedish households), and last week we reported that part of the $2 million allocated to Lund will go towards creating an energy protocol, EP. An open standard that will distribute energy between batteries and other energy storages.

This requires what is called an electric switch. It will be the world's first open electric switch, and the supplier will be Elonroad. Together with Via Europa, which is Jonas Birgersson's company, Elonroad will also create a joint development company for licensing the Energy Router Operating System.

"In addition to our excitement at Elonroad to be part of and accelerate the green transition, now also within energy distribution in buildings, the new joint company will also be able to license the operating system to hardware manufacturers to benefit from the new open standard," says Karin Ebbinghaus, CEO of Elonroad.

This software solution constitutes the brain of the system which, through the new open language, the Energy Protocol (EP), creates entirely new possibilities such as unlimited local electricity production and at the same time relieves the traditional electricity network.

Through digital interfaces, the electric switch can control ports for either alternating current or direct current, which makes investments in local green energy production, storage, and sharing considerably easier, more profitable, and more future-proof.

The first electric switches are already in Elonroad's high-voltage lab in Lund and the first installation in buildings is made within the large-scale system demonstrator CoAction in Lund.

"As we now together remove the biggest bottleneck for local electricity production, we are a big step closer to our final goal, all the green energy you need at low fixed prices," says Jonas Birgersson.
