Outdoor lifestyle brand, Timberland, has embarked on a mission to plant 50 million trees over the next five years.
Partnering with non-profits like the Smallholder Farmers Alliance and the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, the apparel company will begin with projects in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Tanzania & Mali, where progress is underway to build the Great Green Wall – a wall of vegetation that stretches across Africa.
The move is part of the company’s larger commitment to combating climate change, which also includes moving away from fossil fuels and working with suppliers on other potential solutions such as regenerative ranching – raising livestock in a way that can sequester carbon, thus reducing emissions from leather production.
